Three summers ago, a friend of mine spent the summer in Turkey. He had a fantastic time, and he returned home with a great tan and dozens of stories. One afternoon over coffee, he showed me his vacation photos, and I remarked that I’d love to visit Turkey one day. Because we were keeping our wedding a small and intimate affair, my husband and I had the time and budget to plan a grand adventure. We both wanted to go somewhere unique, fun and somewhere we had never gone before, but we both had individual wants for the trip, too. When we were discussing options with our most trusted companions, my friend suggested we take our honeymoon in Turkey!

As much as I wanted to absorb history and culture, I’ll admit that after planning a wedding, I wanted a bit of pampering too. Thankfully, there are spas and hot springs in Turkey to help me relax after the wedding. After a bit of research, I was in love with the idea of a honeymoon in Turkey.

My husband is easy going and would have been happy with almost any honeymoon destination. Whether we took our honeymoon in Turkey or California, he would have been happy as long as he had two things: gorgeous beaches and fantastic food. Turkey’s Mediterranean shore, known as the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1,600 kilometers of coast. It features everything from picturesque ruins to relaxing beaches. When it came to taking our honeymoon in Turkey, I knew my husband would have no issues with the amount of variety of beaches and things to do along the coast! As for the food, Turkish cuisine is a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food cultures. The food is tasty, rich and abundant.

The two of us discussed our options and decided that taking our honeymoon in Turkey would be the best for both of us. I would get learning and pampering, and my husband would get beaches and food. Our honeymoon ended up being absolutely marvelous! We had a phenomenal vacation and brought home hundreds of photos and wonderful memories. The island of Santorini began with a bang. A volcano erupted creating one of the largest and most violent natural explosions in history.
