Include Samos in your Greek Island Holidays

Located in the northeastern corner of the Aegean Sea, Samos is the eighth largest of the Greek islands. This beautiful, lush island boasts a multitude of beaches, their pristine white sands awaiting your visit as a part of your Greek island holidays.

As you approach, the cliffs of this mountainous island rise up as if to frame the beach that calls out to you across the waves inviting your bare toes to dig into its silky grains. Greek island holidays can be customized to ensure you see as many of the islands as possible and Samos is a definite must on your list, with 19 beaches to explore. The high mountains of the Samos Island contribute to the many rainfalls that shower the island during the winter season, resulting in lush, green vegetation. Everything is picture perfect!

A mere 1,200 metres from the shores of Turkey, Samos was the birthplace of Pythagoras who was both a great mathematician and philosopher. His theories have had a great impact on mathematics, most notably the Pythagorean Theorem. You can visit his statue in the harbour of Pythagorio. Samos was also the birthplace of another mathematician, Aristarchus. Aristarchus was also an astronomer who is recognized as the first to propose a sun-centered universe. Greek Island holidays can include excursions for the history buff as well as the sun seeker.

As you explore the beaches of Samos, it is important to keep sun safety in mind. The strong north and north-west winds that blow on the island year round keep the temperature from rising above 29 degrees Celsius, but do not let that fool you into thinking sun screen is unnecessary. Even though the temperature may not feel extremely hot, the suns’ rays are still strong and bare skin needs to be protected to prevent an uncomfortable burn. Nothing can put a damper on a vacation quiet like the sting of a sunburn.

When contemplating exploring the waters, there are some important things to keep in mind:

  • 1. Never swim alone.
  • 2. If you wish to swim a great distance, swim parallel to the shore to prevent getting too far out into the ocean.
  • 3. Keep children within arms’ reach and do not rely on flotation devices. Although helpful, they tend to give a false sense of security encouraging some to let their guard down.
  • 4. In the event you get caught in a rip current, swim sideways until you are free. Do not try to swim against the current.
  • 5. And never mix alcohol and swimming!

As you pad about the island of Samos on your Greek island holidays, you are sure to enjoy the sands of the more popular beaches as well as the secluded beaches that can only be reached by foot. For the traveler that enjoys walking, the private beaches are a welcome location to enjoy a picnic or to delve into that novel in your backpack.

Be sure to include a glass of the island’s signature wine made from the Moschato Aspro grape. Make a toast to Greek Island holidays with a sip of this Samos sweet wine. Cheers!

Honeymoon in Turkey Packages and Deals

Three summers ago, a friend of mine spent the summer in Turkey. He had a fantastic time, and he returned home with a great tan and dozens of stories. One afternoon over coffee, he showed me his vacation photos, and I remarked that I’d love to visit Turkey one day. Earlier this summer, I got married, and during the wedding planning, one of the hardest decisions was where to go for the honeymoon. Because we were keeping our wedding a small and intimate affair, my husband and I had the time and budget to plan a grand adventure. We both wanted to go somewhere unique, fun and somewhere we had never gone before, but we both had individual wants for the trip, too. When we were discussing options with our most trusted companions, my friend suggested we take our honeymoon in Turkey!

When my friend first made the suggestion, I will admit that I experienced a mix of curiosity and hesitancy. My husband and I both wanted to experience different things on our trip that very few countries could adequately accommodate. Would a honeymoon in Turkey be able to make both of us happy?

I have always loved history, and for my honeymoon I wanted to visit a country with a rich history with much for me to learn. Of course, when it comes to museums, cultural sites and historic sites, Turkey is second to none. The first Turkish state was established in the third century BC, and since then, there have been great periods of history in Turkey including the grand Ottoman Empire. Living in North America, these periods of history are rarely covered in the classroom. There are endless sites to see, and there is so much to learn in Turkey if you love culture and history! As much as I wanted to absorb history and culture, I’ll admit that after planning a wedding, I wanted a bit of pampering too. Thankfully, there are spas and hot springs in Turkey to help me relax after the wedding. After a bit of research, I was in love with the idea of a honeymoon in Turkey.

My husband is easy going and would have been happy with almost any honeymoon destination. Whether we took our honeymoon in Turkey or California, he would have been happy as long as he had two things: gorgeous beaches and fantastic food. Turkey’s Mediterranean shore, known as the Turquoise Coast, is nearly 1,600 kilometers of coast. It features everything from picturesque ruins to relaxing beaches. When it came to taking our honeymoon in Turkey, I knew my husband would have no issues with the amount of variety of beaches and things to do along the coast! As for the food, Turkish cuisine is a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food cultures. The food is tasty, rich and abundant.

The two of us discussed our options and decided that taking our honeymoon in Turkey would be the best for both of us. I would get learning and pampering, and my husband would get beaches and food. Our honeymoon ended up being absolutely marvelous! We had a phenomenal vacation and brought home hundreds of photos and wonderful memories. If you’re looking for a honeymoon destination, I recommend researching taking your honeymoon in Turkey. With so much to do and see, you will not be disappointed!

Transporting Gowns for Weddings in Greece

Getting married overseas is a wonderful way to combine a fantastic holiday and a picturesque wedding and when you are in the mood for just that, nothing beats weddings in Greece. From Athens to the islands, Greece is stunning in its natural beauty, time period architecture and views of the Aegean Sea.

If you are one of the many brides with weddings in Greece on your mind, you are doubtless dreaming of wearing your beautiful wedding gown on the beach or in one of the famous stone churches. You may have every detail of your special day planned out, but have you given any thought as to how you are going to transport that wedding gown to Greece?

Since weddings in Greece are a common occurrence, you do have the option of purchasing a gown upon your arrival. Athens has many upscale shopping centers and department stores for you to choose from. With this option, however, you must be prepared to buy and wear a dress off the rack as there will be very little time to order in special sizes or to do alterations. This option may work well for causal weddings in Greece, but if you have your heart set on a designer dream gown – the one you have been fantasizing about since childhood – take the extra time and precautions required to ensure your gown arrives in Greece in perfect condition.

Many bridal boutique owners are familiar with helping brides that plan their weddings in Greece or other popular destinations. Ask the proprietor of your dress shop if they have or can recommend tissue for wrapping your dress. You must use a tissue that is suitable for fabric in order to prevent leaching or discoloration. If your dress shop does not have heavy duty garment bags available, purchase one from your local department store. Do not rely on a cheap, dollar store garment bag to protect your precious gown. Invest in a quality bag or even hard case to ensure your dress has the protection it will need on the flight.

Weddings in Greece are wonderful; the flight to Greece, not so much when you are worrying about you and your dress arriving simultaneously at the airport in Athens. Avoid the stress and worry about lost luggage by using your dress as a carry on. In fact, some airlines make special provisions for wedding dresses and may even allow you to hang the dress in the cockpit. Talk to a customer service agent for the airline you are traveling with to see what arrangements can be made to accommodate your dress.

The reason so many brides choose weddings in Greece will be obvious the minute you step out of the airport. Greece is a place of great beauty and the people, pace of life, food and atmosphere are unlike anywhere else on earth. A few simple steps are all it takes to ensure you and your transported wedding gown enjoy a reunion upon arrival in Greece. Your wedding will be unforgettable as you say I do in the dress of your dreams.

Make Sure Your Greek Island Holidays Include Santorini

Tourists that take Greek island holidays count Santorini as one of their favorite islands.

The island of Santorini began with a bang. A volcano erupted creating one of the largest and most violent natural explosions in history. The rock face you see as you approach Santorini was sheered by the blast, instantly creating a visible geological record. As you near the island by boat, take note of the rock face which, like the Grand Canyon in America, shows many layers of earth.

When you embark on Greek island holidays you must travel by boat. Those on cruise ships will always listen for the warning of “get your ticket for the tender boats!” as they approach the island. Since the docks can get quite busy and the water can be choppy during the tourist season, tender boats are often used to approach the islands. The large ship drops anchor and tourist step carefully from the cruise ship onto smaller boats for passage to the island. These water taxies can be crowded and uncomfortable, which is why tourists prefer to disembark at the dock. At Santorini, however, tender boats always used by cruise ships to access the island. The reason for this is the depth of the caldera.

A caldera is, by definition, is a large crater that is formed by a volcanic eruption. Tourists on Greek island holidays must traverse the central part of this caldera which is filled with water and far too deep to construct a dock large or study enough to accommodate cruise ships. The Santorini caldera is thought to be among, if not the, deepest in the world.

Greek island holidays that include a trip to Santorini are perfect for the history buff. Pre-volcanic eruption, a civilization existed on Santorini. While the ancient site of this civilization has been preserved in the same manner as Pompeii (thanks to the volumes of volcanic ash) no trace of the inhabitants has ever been found. On this point, several theories abound. Some theorize the locals saw signs of the impending doom and took to their boats to escape the disaster. Whether they reached safety or were swept away by the resulting tsunami is anyone’s guess. What is for certain, however, is the slight thrill that runs up your spine as your boat nears this island. It is almost as though ancient voices are calling to you and you near what used to be their home.

History lovers are not the only ones to benefit from Greek island holidays. Those in love with lore credit Santorini as being the site of the fabled Atlantis. The volcanic eruption was certainly powerful enough to be on par with the eruption that destroyed the mythical city and once on the island, you can clearly see what a paradise it was and continues to be to present day.

Greek island holidays are unforgettable. Make yours even more so by including Santorini on your list of must-see islands. Santorini brings you the perfect blend of history and mystery that makes any vacation of note complete.
